The conference “Military Profession in Serbia – Current Conditions and Future Perspectives” was held in the Guard club “Topcider” on March 30-31, 2009, under the auspices of the SRI. Mr. Zoran Jeftic, Serbian defense state secretary, gave the opening remarks. This conference is a part of a SRI project and it was organized in order to exchange information and positions, analyze different aspects of the military profession and problems, and to present some solutions. More than 50 participants from different departments of the MoD and SAF attended this conference, along with representatives from the Faculty of Security Studies, Institute of Comparative Law and Center for Civil-military Relations. There were three panels with about thirty presentations: “The Military Profession and Society” (presided by Prof. Milanko Cabarkapa, PhD., Faculty of Philosophy); “Career and Status” (presided by the state secretary of the MoD Mr. Zoran Jeftic, PhD.); and “Officers’ Profiles and New Challenges” (presided by General-major Prof. Bozidar Forca, PhD.). A collection of the presentations will be published after the conference. Some of the issues that were discussed during the conference will become the main topics of new meetings in the future. More intense cooperation and information exchange among the organizations that participated in the conference is planned, as well as international cooperation, exchange of experiences and the promotion of research on the military profession.
