Thematic Collection of Articles „The Volunteers in the Great War 1914 - 1918“

The 100th anniversary of the First World War is a jubilee of global importance. A war as a complex social and historical phenomenon opens numerous issues that historiography has responded to only partially or is still searching for the explanations of their causes, courses and consequences. One of such issues is volunteerism in the great War which, as a phenomenon, did not remain limited to a single nation or a state territory, but became a general historical phenomenon. The international thematic collection of articles „The Volunteers in the Great War 1914 - 1918“, presented to the scientific community and wide readership by the Institute of History, Strategic Research Institute of Serbian Ministry of Defence and Matica srpska from Novi Sad, aims do demonstrate that all events in the Great War should be observed in their wider historical context. Moreover, by encouraging international dialogue among historians – applying a comparative method and opening, based on scientific approach, the contentious issues which have not been historically examined – it is possible to overcome all simplification and abuse of these issues for daily political purpose. Thematic Collection of Articles „The Volunteers in the Great War 1914 - 1918“ contains research articles of 27 historians from Italy, Bulgaria, Russia, Romania, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary, Germany and Serbia.
