The Day of the Strategic Research Institute marked

The Day of the Strategic Research Institute, 5 February, was officially celebrated today at the premises of the Institute. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Jovica Draganic with members of the collegium of the Chief of General Staff, Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Major General Sladjan Djordjevic, as well as a large number of colleagues, friends and representatives of the academic community of the Republic of Serbia.

The ceremony was opened by Director of the Strategic Research Institute Jovanka Saranovic, who pointed out the most important results of the Institute in the past and announced plans for the upcoming period.
 

As for the results achieved in the past period, Dr. Saranovic particularly stressed the importance of accreditation of the Institute, pointing out that this Institute had become a full member of the scientific community of the Republic of Serbia, and the defence system received verified capacity to develop scientific activities. Also, with this act, the Institute created the preconditions for a significant deepening of cooperation with other research institutions at home and abroad.

Speaking about the results of scientific research, Dr Saranovic stressed that the Institute in the past period had implemented several important projects whose results were important in understanding contemporary geopolitical processes and their impact on the security of the Republic of Serbia, as well as defining the required capability of the defence system to protect vital national interests. She pointed out the projects Security and Defence Aspects of the Accession of RS to the European Union, Strategic-Security Trends in South East Europe by 2020, Interest in the service in the active reserve, Gender aspect in the military profession, as well as the History of Serbian and Yugoslav Army in the 19th and 20th century. At the same time, she recalled that the Institute was the organizer and co-organizer of two major international conferences - Gender equality in the defence system - results and perspectives, and The War Year of 2015.
 

Also, Dr Saranovic pointed out that the Institute in 2015 had published a number of studies and monographs, as well as numerous articles in national and international journals authored by representatives of the Institute.

The Plaque of the Serbian Armed Forces on the occasion of the anniversary of 140 years of work on behalf of the Chief of Staff was presented by Lt. Gen. Jovica Draganic.
