SRI Researchers Attended International Conference Entitled “Serbia in the Contemporary Geostrategic Environment”

The International Conference “Serbia in the Contemporary Geostrategic Environment” was held on September 21, 2009 at the conference hall of the Institute of International Politics and Economics. The conference was organized by the SRI, Institute of International Politics and Economics and Hanns Seidel Foundation for the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Montenegro. SRI Director Lt. General Milan Zaric, M.Sc., Director of the Institute of International Politics and Economics Mr. Dusko Dimitrijevic, PhD., Project Director of the Hanns Seidel Foundation for the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Montenegro Mr. Lutz Cober and Assistant to the Director of the Institute of International Politics and Economics Mrs. Nevenka Jeftic, PhD. gave the welcoming remarks. Director of Planning Politics Department of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Prof. Milan Jazbec, PhD. gave the introductory presentation entitled “The Change of Paradigm – Geopolitical, Defense and Diplomatic Aspects”. The Conference had three panels. Col. Katarina Strbac, PhD. gave a presentation entitled “Regional Security and Its Influence on Serbia”. About 40 speakers made presentations at the Conference. Beside representatives from SRI and the Serbian MoD, there were also representatives from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Belgrade University, Police Academy, Academy of Diplomacy and Security, European Movement in Serbia, Institute of International Politics and Economics, Institute of European Studies, as well as representatives from the USA, Russian Federation, Japan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Austria. Contemporary geopolitical processes, Serbian geostrategic position, global interactions, Serbia’s future, contemporary security aspects and energy geo-strategy were also discussed during the Conference.
