The development of a professional military organization in Serbia (1804 - 1990): experiences and lessons (Finished)

The scientific-research project "Development of a professional military organization in Serbia (1804 - 1990): experiences and lessons" was launched in 2019 as basic research in the field of humanities, due to the ever-present need to analyze one's own and foreign historical experience in building a professional military organization whose are the main characteristics unchanged in the last two centuries. The main goal of the research is to draw conclusions about how to build a professional military organization based on its own example of the development of institutions, personnel selection systems, doctrine, and military thought. The goal of the research is the accurate mapping of risk factors and "brakes" in the development of a professional military organization, and knowledge based on personal experience of how compliance or non-compliance with professional principles affects combat readiness. In addition to researchers from the ISI Department of Military History, the project also involved researchers from the Department of Social Sciences of the Military Academy and the Military Archive, as well as external collaborators from the Institute of History, the Institute of Contemporary History, the Institute of Recent History of Serbia and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade.
