Military Profession in Serbia in the COntemporary Security Environment (Ongoing)
The project "Military Profession in Serbia in the Contemporary Security Environment" is a multidisciplinary research project in the field of social sciences being carried out at the Department of Defence Studies. The contemporary security environment has brought about numerous changes in various spheres of social activity, which collectively and necessarily reflect on military activity as well. Therefore, the main idea of the project is to examine the changes that are taking place in the field of security at the global, regional, and national levels, to identify the current and potential challenges, risks, and threats to the security of the Republic of Serbia, to examine the place and role of the army and the military profession in Serbia in the 21st century, as well as economic trends related to the field of defence. The project should also provide insight into the sociological, ethical, and psychological aspects of the military profession. The project is designed to include both theoretical part and empirical research. The emprical research conducted on a pre-defined sample is expected to provide valuable data on on the actual situation on the ground. The analysis of the data gathered will provide answers to the questions of whether the knowledge and skills acquired in the undergraduate studies at the Military Academy and the Course for Reserve Officers are adequate (sufficient, necessary) for the profession of an officer in the 21st century, and what additional skills or knowledge may be required, according to the perception of the respondents.
